manually changing phone clock causes blocked zones to appear unblocked

Status

Resolution

Priority

normal

Severity

minor

Turf Version

0.9.7.1 - please upgrade

Steps to reproduce

Click a blocked zone. While viewing the zone info, and block timer, go into Android settings and reset the system clock one hour forward. Close the settings and voila, the zone no longer seems blocked! I have not tried taking a zone under these conditions though. Ideally, the app should never use time stamps provided by the client device, but rather by the server (although this might increase server load and data traffic)

☒ I think this is an important issue.

Version: 0.9.7.1

Device: LG – Nexus 5 – Android 5.0

When I saw this issue I had to try for myself. I discovered that is it true but it didn't required the zone window to be open, just the turf application running in the foreground was enough. I opened the settings for the clock, put the time 1 hour forward and all the block zones disappeared. For the sake of science (of course) I also try to take the zone but was unable to do so. The "Taking zone" window popped up but no "Zone taken" window appears. It was just the "Taking zone" window that was flashing in the same way as it was doing during the period of troubles with the round start, when the block wasn't showing because the server couldn't keep up.
